The Xterra dock started it all. Countless hours have gone into planning, and figuring out how to make this the best dock ever.
-The mounting method makes use of mounting tape. We believe this to be the ideal method, since many people would prefer not to drill into their dash for mounting screws, plus the small amount of tape acts as a vibration damper for the media player.
-Channels are cut into the bottom of the dock that lead both straight down, and towards the steering column. This gives users a few different cord mounting methods. If someone is inclined, the channel leading to the steering column allows one to run the wires back into the dash (once again, no drilling or modification necessary) to have a setup with NO wires seen.
-The mounting location keeps the media player within the vision of the driver for both convenience and safety. The screen sits in the lower right hand area of the gas gauge pod with no warning lights blocked. So far no one has had a problem seeing the screen, but even if it was blocked by the steering wheel, a slight tilt of the head would bring it into view (similar to looking down at the radio).
-The fit is designed to look as stock as possible, as if the truck came with it. This is both to keep the interior looking clean and uncluttered, and also to not act as a red flag alerting those walking past the truck that you have an expensive mp3 player stashed in your glove box.
